Our experienced instructors I will guide kids on a wilderness adventure in observation and exploration of the natural world. Our goal is to give children a positive experience outside that they will remember for a lifetime. All of our programs employ a very effective educational technique called “Coyote Mentoring”. This progressive teaching style practices artful questioning, being present, encourages creativity, and fosters imagination. In our intellectual learning-journey we will study the plants and animals of the Seward Park where we'll learn naturalist skills such as journaling, plant and animal identification, and animal tracking.
This Nature & Skills class was designed to work in conjunction with either homeschool families or families in the Seattle School District (Wednesday Early Release) that want a richer, unique, outside the box experience for their child that public or private schools cannot offer.
The harder skills part of this class is a highlight for most kids where we learn how to use a knife safely and make Fiction Fire Kits aka Bow Drill Kits!
Free-play and less competitive games is a great way for our group to have loads of fun together. Nature Connection and Awareness will be practiced fully but an equally important part will be respecting each other and creating a social atmosphere of respect and positive communication in our small community.
About our teacher: I am also very happy to have introduce you to Saucy, an experienced instructor with a rich background in "Nature Connection Education" and Survival Skills & Crafts as well! The kids love Saucy.
Each monthly program has a different science and a seasonal nature focus and instructors will meet the kids needs on their terms. Nature is always providing different mysteries, navigating educationally to an emerging subject that we will observe and explore.
The ages for this monthly program will be 8-11 year olds.
